Pre booked to come for dinner, but ended up turning up early and sitting at the bar... 10 minutes later whilst trying to figure out which pisco option to go through, a table opened up and we were seated and ready for food!

Started off with the corn cake which was so so.. Not so much taste, and probably could've been better served with more mushroom, but thats just personal preference. Probably a bit dry for my liking. Also tried the nikkei tartare which was quite nice. Kind of like a spicy salmon sashimi. Not sure how peruvian this is, but it definitely tasted like something which could come off a japanese menu. The third appetizer we tried was the pan con chicharron, which was basically a bun with crispy pork bits inside. This was nice, probably something that you would expect from a nice bar / lounge menu. The highlight of the night's dishes for sure, although one was definitely enough just to taste.

Finally topped it all off with the mixto which was definitely not expected. Served cold, and with a distinct lime flavour, this basically tasted like a cold seafood soup. The seafood itself wasn't necessarily fresh, although this probably was not what the chef was going for.

All in all, it was an interesting experience... different. And thats what we were going for. We did not expect a really nice dinner with amazing flavours which would sing to our tastebuds. We just wanted a unique experience for a friday night. Which is exactly what we got.     

Came by on a Sunday for Brunch and was drawn in by the amazing decor and high ceilings which gave a nice comfortable feeling and was perfect for chilling out for a few hours on Sunday morning whilst getting into a hearty breakfast.

First up on the menu was 'Casanova's Sleepover', which was lamb/pork sausages, bacon, spinach, white beans and a poached egg on a crumpet. It was good and hearty and very filling, but none of the flavours really stood out. The egg was done ok, but a touch overdone, and it seemed like casanova had slept in on this one.

Also tried the 'Drowned Pig' which sounded great on the menu (cured salmon and pig gristle!), but in practice failed to deliver. The flavours didn't really wash together and left us wanting more, but not in a good way.

Thankfully we also ordered the pancakes which saved the whole experience. They were perfectly done, and the coffee topping and ice cream really paired up well to give a real Sunday brekkie feeling and left us wanting more. It was just enough to fill us up, and was perfectly paired with an english breakfast tea to wash it down. This is definitely on the recommend list, especially for anyone who loves the taste of coffee.

All this was complimented well with nice friendly staff, and for once in Hong Kong an uncrowded restaurant where you don't feel claustrophobic or rushed to finish your meal. A great place for a sunday brunch.    

Muji has always been known for being simple with its decorations and designs which has always been one of its strengths. But when this translates across to its food, it does not always work. This may be a healthy choice, but food is not one area where less is more.

I tried the 3 choices with rice. My first choice was an indian chicken which was probably the tastiest of the choices, but was quite dry and only had two small pieces overall. Also tried the fried chicken, but this had a weird taste and was served with a tartar sauce which really did not compliment the taste. Finally had a miso eggplant dish which was my failsafe, but unfortunately this failed and was not nice at all. The flavours just did not mesh, and overall the servings were way too small.

We also tried the butter chicken, but disappointingly this was mainly sauce and not too much chicken at all. This could have been forgivable if the curry sauce was nice, but this was not the case, and overall the meal was just too bare to pass the grade.   

After watching the queues for this place for a few months now, it was finally time to pay it a visit... Going at the strategic time of 9am on a Sunday morning, we were able to walk in without too much of a wait...

Ordered the standard ramen, and sat at the booth to await my much anticipated bowl.. It was served quite uniquely within my booth, which made for a fun experience, but thats where the excitement stopped. The ramen itself was not the tastiest. The soup was too oily and not strong tasting enough. And the ramen was a bit hard and did not go well with the soup. Even the topping were not enough to go along with the main dish.

Saw a sign on the wall which said that most people order extra noodles to go with the soup. I can only assume this is to justify the long wait time, because other than that, it was not the best bowl of ramen I've ever had.. I'm pretty sure I've tried better in Hong Kong...  

Came to this place with high expectations based on good things heard from friends. Really wanted to try their famous chicken, but were told when ordering that there were none left! This was at 7:30pm! It must be really great then...

Instead settled on three simple dishes to try out, one was a hit, the other a big miss...

Started with the meat patties, which was actually an afterthought where ordering. We only ordered this because everything else we wanted was not available. But they were surprisingly juicy and tender and full of flavour and was actually really nice. A must try for anyone who has not before.

We also ordered some scallops with vermicelli as an entree. They were ok, very average, tasty sauce, but the scallops were not that fresh or that big at all. Not worth the price.

The main dish we tried though and were looking forward to was their pork liver pot. Sounded great in principle, but when we tasted it, it was dry and lifeless. Was obviously made from frozen liver, and this led to a stiff consistency and not enough flavour soaked within the liver itself. A terrible disappointment.
Same can be said about the service. The serving staff seem to give preference to the regulars, and at one stage, we were served the wrong dish from a waiter, who then had the courage to blame us for not ordering clearly. What happened to the customer is always right?? Given all the great things we heard from this place, it was average at best, and would need to think hard before coming back.   

Decided to try out this relatively new Vietnamese restaurant to see if it could challenge some of the other nicer establishments around Hong Kong. Ordered take out and after an average wait time, tried out some vietnamese staples to see if it lived up to the challenge...

The main dish we ordered was their 'broken rice' - ie rice with egg, pork chop, and shredded meat. They already lost points for not giving me a 'tomato rice' option, and for just serving with a simple sunny side up egg, but on tasting, the dish was found to be dry and tasteless. Needed alot of sauce or something to make the dish come alive, and none of it was really helping. A real disappointment.

Also tried their shrimp and pork vietnamese rolls. These are quite standard and hard to get wrong. But again, lacked a certain taste and required alot of sauce to make up for it. In fact the only dish which was ok, was the vegetables - fried morning glory with belachan sauce. If they had gotten this wrong I would vow to never come back. Luckily, it was tasty enough, but again is a common enough dish which is easy to get right.

All up, a disappointing meal after having high hopes for this restaurant...

Noticed this branch of California Vintage which was a lot bigger than their Central store. Overall was really well lit, had friendly staff, and was spacious and comfortable. It was also happy hour for oysters (half price) so we could not say no!

Started off with a few oysters each, which were nice and fresh, not the juiciest, but given they were half price, pretty good value for money.

Then got into some real food. Tried the mushroom and camembert bruschetta which was really nice with some caramelised onions in the middle. A really simple dish, but done real well. Perhaps a bit overpriced, but I guess you are paying a bit for the environment too.

Also got their mixed sliders, which were soft shelled crab, salmon, and minced beef patties. They were all quite good on their own, but also very small (even allowing that they were just sliders). They came with a few different sauces to sample, but none were good enough to write home about.

Overall experience was very pleasant though. Will be back to try out the scallop and avocado salad or their tacos. It is a nice place to feel like you are in the states or anywhere else with a more western vibe. And their wine tasting selection is huge! 

Stopped by Texas to try out their roast chicken. Had seen ads for this place, and decided to give it a go because there are not too many great roast chicken places in the city. Ordered a 1/4 chicken (leg and thigh) and roasted vegetables with lemon sauce.

The meat itself was quite nice and not too tough, and the skin was good enough to eat, without feeling too fatty. But in the end it was really just an average roasted chicken leg. Nothing so special that it would inspire a return visit, but nice for a snack if you are in the area and have a hankering for chicken. Think city super but with a larger range of sauces.

Did not get to try the ribs, but given the average taste of the chicken, would not expect that much more.

After looking through all the restaurants on offer in Windsor House, decided to give this place a chance because it had some "yummy" items on the menu. Especially some of the udon combinations. Started off with the handmade chicken / egg udon, but was not so impressed when the dish was presented. Totally NOT what the picture had depicted (although it never is at most restaurants). The flavour was somewhat lacking and overall feeling from the dish... average.

The side dishes we got however were a bit more interesting. Both the tomato dumpling (with tomato taste with pork inside the dumpling as well as a zesty tomato salsa type sauce to go with it) and the spinach and ham croquette (spinach blended into a mostly potato type fried dumpling) were ok as compliments to the main dish, it was just a shame that the main dish had been so much of a let down.

We did however top it all off with a mochi pork dumpling which was a nice surprise. The "mochi"-ness was mainly in the pastry of the dumpling, and the rest just tasted like a regular dumpling, but it did give a somewhat unique twist on the original.

Overall, not much here to justify a return meal, unless totally craving an economical japanese fix, with no other options in place...

A great dining experience with an amazing view. The whole place was very decadent and it looked great and the staff were suberb and very helpful. But the overall feel was like we were eating in China. Most of the customers here should be from the mainland so I think there were small touches here and there (like the table ornaments) that had a very distinct "China" feel to it.

The food though was great. Even the bread (foccacia, bacon bread sticks), palette cleansers etc were tasty. And got us so excited that by the time my first dish - the soup - was amazing. The foie gras at the bottom to match the soup was great. Could've been a little hotter, but aside from that was perfect.

Next on the list was the guinea fowl which was my choice of the main. It was a lot less than I expected (I thought I'd get the whole bird!), but what i did get was nonetheless, very tasty. Especially when had with the foie gras. One thing I left on the plate though was the brandied cherries - not a big fan - but I wonder what it would have all tasted like together?

For dessert, I had the mille feuille, which had proven popular with other diners on the day, and I was not disappointed. Perfectly flakey in all the right places, and balanced out with a nice vanilla bean ice cream, this was just the right finish to our meal.

Robuchon is a definite must for french food lovers, and for best value, try it out for lunch! The portions may be smaller but you do not lose out on taste!
