Boyfriend and I were in the Wanchai area and planning to do takeaway from a favorite sandwich shop of  mine before heading home. But down the street was this new shop all in green. Walking over we discovered it was a takeaway pizza place.But what caught my eye was the oven. It was decorated like a green monster?? But hidden behind this facade was a stone pizza oven!!! Now, stone pizza ovens are very rare for any restaurant let alone a takeway shop. Curious, we decided to give it  try.The menu is in English and Chinese. As it's takeway only, there is no 10% service charge. They have a large variety of pizzas to choose from along with other items like pasta and snacks.They also have 2 people and 4 people sets.And a single size version for takeaway.We decided to do the 2 people set for $288. This includes a pizza for under $139. Anything over, you just add money to make the difference. There is also a choice of pasta, a snack and two drinks or the daily soup. Everything was packed in a sturdy plastic bag with well lidded containers so there was no spillage. I didn't live far so it was still warm when we got home.

For the pizza we chose the Meat Monster (added $20). A generous topping of pepperoni, chirozo, meat sauce, mushroom, red onion and plenty of cheddar cheese. The sauce had a nice seasoning of herbs. And the crust! Wow. Very crispy and well toasted.For the snacks we chose Smoked Salmon and Cheddar Cheese Spring Rolls. These came with wasabi mayonnaise for dipping. The spring rolls remained crunchy all the way back home. I loved the cheese as it complimented the smoked salmon perfectly, giving the salmon an even stronger smokey taste.For the pasta, we chose the Spaghetti Bolognese with Hotspring Egg. I definitely never tried an egg, let alone a hotspring egg with my bolognese so this was definitely different. But it oddly worked. I guess eggs work with everything. The bolognese sauce was very rich and meaty. The pasta was also al dente.The set also included two soft drinks or a choice of daily soup. I got one daily soup because I don't really like soft drinks.  The daily soup that day was cream of corn. Very creamy and lots of fresh corn niblets. It was also dressed with a bit of olive oil. Definitely not something I expecte from  a takeaway shop.Good tasting food at a decent price.  They even did a few things that seemed more fancier than the usual takeaway. Everything was made to order but they were very fast. Would definitely give them another try again.

There are plenty of cafes in Wanchai but most of them are usually very busy.  But hidden in Hopewell Center, there is a cafe that I like to go to because it's often quiet and I can always find a seat. Gary Kwok Flowers & Cafe is located in Hopewell Center and more popular with the office people that work in the building.  It's actually part of a flower shop and that's why the cafe itself is decorated with an assortment of flowers.  
They offer a cake set in the afternoon. Any drink with the daily cake for $82. Pourovers are extra.
They have a decent variety of coffee and noncoffee items. For those not into cake, they offer other basic cafe style food.
Boyfriend ordered a Tofu Matcha Latte. A cold drink with bits of soft tofu on the bottom. The matcha was rich and slightly sweet. Combined with thetofu, this was more like a dessert.
I just wanted a latte and it was served in a pretty tea cup. Very nice latte art. The coffee was strong with a slight nutty taste.
The daily cake was a banana cake. They warmed it up and added fluffy chocolate whipped cream and drizzle of chocolate syrup. The cake was moist and rich with banana taste.
As they ran out of the daily cake and we had ordered two sets, they substituted with a tofu cheesecake. This I liked a lot! Most places that have this, you really can't taste any soybean flavour and just taste cream cheese. But this cake, the soybean flavour was intense. The cake itself was creamy and rich. A small drizzle of chocolate syrup was used to decorate it.
Always a favorite place of mine with decent coffee and good cake. And best of all? Quiet so you don't have to yell while you talk.

We came across this place called Tam Viet 2 Dumplings. Apparently they serve not only Vietnamese food but Chinese dumplings? Talk about the oddest crossover EVER!
We came during afternoon tea time. Menu is in English and Chinese. Sets do not come with a drink. Ordering is done by checking off a piece of paper.
I had an ice lemon tea ($6). Usually I don't bother to show you this but they used calamansi instead of lemons. I liked it!


Boyfriend ordered the Viet Grilled Galangal Pork Soup Noodle ($45). The soup was a bit too salty but there was plenty of pork bits. Meat was soft and tender.
I had the Fried Garlic Chicken Wing Soup Noodle ($45). The chicken wings were well seasoned and juicy though a bit too oily. This came with a bowl of noodles on the side. The broth here was too salty and really tasted like MSG. The noodles were a bit too soft for my liking. Portions were decent especially for a tea set item.
Food was a bit too salty for my liking but boyfriend liked it so we may be back. If so, I'd probably try a dumpling to see what that's all about. Especially since the staff kept selling us to order dumplings.

Silk is new to the bubble milk tea scene in Hong Kong. I noticed it first in Central and now they have several other branches. The Central branch seems to always be very popular so we gave it a try.

Menu is in English and Chinese. No 10% service charge as this place is takeaway only. Though there are a few seats outside their shop.
They also have this offer: free flow cheese foam for 30 minutes. I didn't see anyone doing this and we didn't try it.
They also have prizes to be won.
Apparently on every lid there is a sticker to peel back what you win.
We only had a discount for next time.
I ordered a Smooth Black ($28) as it was listed as their most popular drink. It had grass jelly, black sugar boba and black crystals in a charcoal roasted oolong milk tea. The tea was ok. Not too strong but at list not too weak. Not too sweet as well. Even the boba wasn't too sweet. There was some crunchy things which I assume is the black crystals.
The drink was ok. But expect a long wait for your drink. They have way too many delivery orders which they do first. I think that is probably why there is always a line whenever I walk by.

I love Beans Cafe. I always loved their cakes and they do serve fairly decent food. Now they have branched out and created a bakery in Ma On Shan called Beans Bakery.
It's takeaway only and they had a variety of Western and Hong Kong style bread. Everything was labelled in English and Chinese. As it's takeaway only. there is no 10% service charge.
I decided on the Honey Soaked Ham Bun ($18). It was a hefty size.  It had a sticky coating on top and looked a bit like a Hong Kong style coconut roll. The bread was fairly soft and sweet. It was stuffed with a slice of honey ham and a processed cheese slice. It was ok. Tasty enough. If I come by again, I'd try something else.

Exploring the Ma On Shan area, we saw a lot of people inside this cha chaan teng. We decided to give it a try.

They had afternoon tea sets when we were there. The menu is in Chinese only. There is no English and no 10% service charge. The interesting thing about their afternoon tea sets is that you can create your own by choosing something from section A and one from section B for $42. All sets come with a drink.
I created mine: a small Hong Kong style French toast and a fried fish fillet. The fillet was a bit small compared to othe cha chaan tengs. Crispy coating and the fish was so soft. A bit on the salty side. The French toast had plenty of peanut butter with actual peanuts still there. Also a bit on the salty side but tasted fairly good.
Boyfriend chose a fried chicken fillet and a mini baked meat pasta. The chicken was a bit under and the coating was a bit on the salty side. But the pasta was completely sad to eat. Not enough sauce and it wasn't really coated into the pasta. The pasta was soggy and watery. We didn't see any meat. It was terrible.
Food was a bit on the salty side and the pasta was atrocious. I saw they have other branches so I doubt we'll be back.

It seems every time we come to Kwai Chung Plaza, this cha chaan teng is always super busy with a line waiting to go in. We decided to find out why.

Menu is in Chinese only. There is no 10% service charge. When we were there, they had the afternoon tea set available. Along with the usual cha chaan teng classics, they offered roast meat as well.
I decided on the Stir Fried Beef Noodle ($52). Portions are definitely large here. It wasn't too dark in color but wow! Was it salty. The beef were small and thin. Super soft but not much beef flavour. Boyfriend ordered a spicy Thai fried noodle that wasn't spicy at all. Just overly salty. The food isn't very good but they do offer big portions. I did notice people order roast meat so I wonder if that is the thing to get?? I guess we won't be back.

A new cha chaan teng opened close to my home and I decided to give it a try. It was very large with lots of space. They also seem to decorate the walls with Bearbrick. That was definitley different.

I ordered a Stir Fried Beef Rice Noodle ($55). A decent portion with generous large slices of beef. It wasn't too oily and wasn't salty at all. Interestingly I found some pieces of shredded egg. I'm not sure if this is normal? It was pretty good and the service here was very nice. I don't think I've encountered such a nice cha chaan teng. Will be back and try out the sandwiches next time.

Wheneve we are wandering around Gough Street, we pass by Bedu. The outside wall has a beautiful mural and the restaurant is always packed. One evening we decided to give it a try. See what the fuss was all about?The restaurant isn't very big. We didn't make a reservation but they could fit us in the bar where we could see the chef in action. And the kitchen is VERY small with two people working. I must applaud the chefs for their superior multi-tasking skills in that small kitchen and still come out with great looking plates of food.Menu is in English and Chinese but staff only speak English.  And what they serve is Middle Eastern cuisine.Boyfriend ordered a cocktail to get the evening started. This is the Alexandria ($105).  Made of hibiscus, strawberry, vodka, raspberry and zaatar cordial, pineapple juice and lemon juice. It had a nice balance of sweet and sour. The alcohol was not strong at all.The menu is designed for sharing so we started with some starters.

We wanted flatbread and decided on things to pair it with. This is the Smoky Hummous ($70). I love hummous and usually have a container in my fridge. But this was fantastic. Better than any hummous I've had even at a restaurant. It was smooth. The smokiness gave it an extra layer of flavour. The spices all blended well together. I literally scooped it up by the spoonful.Of course, I had to have Flatbread ($55). You get three half cut pieces. So fluffy and soft. Beautifully fragrant with a smear of olive oil on each slice. You could open it up to make a pita but I love tearing it bit by bit to scoop the great hummous we ordered.We also ordered Seasonal Pickles ($40). A generous bowl of pickled cauliflower, beetroot and chili peppers. Not too sour but just enough to give a good palate clense.The other starter was the Falafel ($120). Dressed with tahini, it was served with pinenut salsa and pickled mango to balance out the richness of the dish. The falafels had very crunchy exterior but inside it was soft and fluffy.For the main, we had a Beef Kofteh ($220) and it was presented on a impressively sharp skewer. Served on a bed of saffron butter and Iskandar sauce and a side of cuscus salad. This was definitely not our usual kebab from down the street. The beef was cooked to a medium rare and had  a wonderful blend of spices and herbs. The sauce was rich and decadent. The cuscus was fluffy and well seasoned.We also ordered a side of Spiced Rice ($40). Topped with almond, barberry and pistachio. The rice was not wet and had a nice hint of spices that wasn't too overpowering.We ended with dessert of Konafa ($115) because I was curious. I had never heard of it before and I ended up loving it. Crispy Kadayif hid the soft stretchy mozzarella. Topped with pistachio ice cream and drizzled with rose water syrup. It wasn't too sweet as most Middle Eastern desserts are.  It was warm and crunchy. Gooey and cold. This was a wonderful dessert.

I can see why this place is always so busy. It was busy even on a weeknight! The staff are friendly, offering great suggestions. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. It was comfort food with a bit of flair.

I'm always on the search for good banh mi and this place caught my eye. Bun-Me. Serving banh mi! It's a small shop with a table outside if you wish to dine in.  It's mostly geared for takeaway.
Menu is in Chinese only and no 10% service charge. They serve  a variety of other items. But if you want the banh mi, they only one traditional version for $42.
Boyfriend ordered one to go so we could share. It was wrapped in paper.
Unwrapping it, it did look very good and lots of filling.  A generous size as well. The bread was the correct kind! Light yet crisp. Not the French baguette many places use. Generous smear of pate and chunks of pork belly. There was also some slices of Vietnamese sausage. The cilantro was fresh and slices of carrots were crisp. The only let down was the carrots. They wern't pickled enough. No sour tang that balances everything out. Otherwise it was decent enough.
