大蕃茄 (油麻地)

I never understood why people go to a restaurant to eat cup noodles. This is what you get here: cup noodles in a tomato sauce that tastes like cup noodle soup (not even good one) with a few added tomato chunks and pieces of beef of a very strange color (pinkish) and texture (very chewy) - not sure if the are almost raw or whatever they do with that. Typical Hong Kong noodle shop setting (which is fine, when the food is good). At about 40 HKD per portion far to expensive for the quality. Food came fast.

After all the hype I really wanted to try this. And after we came in I really wanted to like it - the setting is really nice, stylish modern, but not over the top. Among all Chinese cuisines Sichuan is my favorite, so I came with high expectations.  Unfortunately the food was disappointing. The dished are very much adjusted to Southern Chinese/Western tastes - to sweet, not spicy enough and they totally fail to deliver the complex, multi-layerd flavor that makes Sichuan food so great. The "water-boiled-beef" was by a margin the worst I ever had - very shallow flavor and a lot of ingredient that don't belong there (e.g. mushrooms). Also very pricy for the quality.

Jo Jo Indian Cuisine (灣仔)

Went here for the lunch buffet. Not cheap for a lunch at 88 +10% (without drinks), but a decent deal if you take full advantage. Very good chicken tikka and samosas, decent curries (four vegetarian, three chicken, one lamb), which all tasted quite similar. Only standard rice and naan (naan was to soft, they probably don't have a tandoor oven). Only one desert, which I didn't try.

老趙越南餐廳 (佐敦)

Vietnam is famous for its noodle soups and in this place it's easy to understand why. The beef noodle soup is really great - tasty (quite "earthy") broth, thin slices of beef, chewy rice noodles and fresh herbs, perfect!  Haven't tried the other dished yet, but will come back for more.
Very simple interior, prompt service.
