We discovered this restaurant by chance as it is right next to a coworking space that we were working at. Their quaint and picturesque storefront had caught our eye. We finally decided to give it a visit on Mother’s Day weekend. Given that it was Mother’s Day, they had a special 5 course menu for lunch. The interior of the restaurant is just as beautiful as the exterior, a charming and cosy European vibe. All of the dishes were excellent, in particular the lobster and sweet dumpling. We were especially pleased with the service, which we found to be even better than some of the Michelin or more expensive restaurants in Hong Kong. I will definitely return and also recommend Maison ES to others.

Found out about this place from my South African colleague. Was excited to try as I never had South African food before. The owner was an absolute delight and took great care of us throughout the entire meal. He would happily give us recommendations while patiently explaining the different dishes, since we were clearly new to South African cuisine. We were offered extra bread to dip in the delicious gumbo shrimp, and when we had to move tables due to a mistake in the booking system, the owner more than made up for it by offering his sincere apology multiple times but also by giving us free top ups of our wine! Everything that we tried was absolutely delicious. The gumbo shrimp sauce is just to die for. Just a heads up regarding the corn ribs - it looks like it doesn’t come with the stalk but it does! We ordered springbokkie and amarula shots to go with our desserts and the owner surprised us by kindly offering us an extra shot of each on the house so that my boyfriend and I could try both shots (we originally just ordered one each to share.) It was a wonderful evening with delicious food and exceptional service. I will definitely return.

Not sure what the negative reviews are on about. Boyfriend and I ordered one drink each and both were perfectly tasty without too much ice as some reviews claim. We ordered our drinks at 30% sugar and we also added lychee coconut jelly to our drinks. It was the perfect thirst quencher!

The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, an ideal place for dates or a comfortable and classy evening with friends and family. The clientele is mostly older folks with a mix of foreigners and locals. The service is attentive but sometimes too attentive. The staff took away my friend’s amuse bouche before she was done and throughout the meal the staff kept wanting to take our plates away when there was still food on them. Not sure why they seemed so rushed as the restaurant was not even full. Food was good but not amazing, not sure if it’s worth the price. The standout to me was the Bombay Chilgoza Prawns ($168): The Chatpati Gobhi ($118) and Butter Chicken/Chicken Makhni ($192) were decent but the Amritsari Kulcha ($62) that we ordered to go with the butter chicken was a bit too dry and hard. We wished it was fluffier. Mango Kulfi ($88) for dessert was tasty but the portion was quite small: Cocktails were also decent especially for the price. Surprisingly same price or even cheaper than a 330ml pint of Sapporo. Overall a good experience and might return for cheaper deals (e.g. lunch / lunch buffet), but I don’t think dinner and a la carte is worth the price.

Happy to see that Accro Coffee has now expanded to Tuen Mun (here it’s called Accro Cafe Bar). Their Yuen Long branch is always super busy, even on weekdays, but this branch doesn’t seem as busy just yet. However, shortly after I sat down, the cafe filled up very quickly… and it was a weekday. I see they have a ticketing machine for a queueing system outside the shop so I imagine it can get quite busy here too. I like the vibe here. Dimly lit, minimalistic wooden interior. Feels calm and zen~ There’s free wifi too! The staff here seem very serious about their coffee. Though I didn’t order siphon/hand pour coffee myself, I saw the staff carefully weigh the beans of each order and personally try each coffee that she prepared before serving it to customers. I got the espresso combo that is served with a little card explaining the origins of the coffee bean. The staff gave me a brief explanation of how to drink the coffee. Also ordered a lemon tart but it was just okay. I liked that it wasn’t too sweet but it also lacked lemon flavour. My only complaint is the long wait time, despite the cafe not being full. Took a while to get the staff’s attention to order. Then had to wait some time again (20 min) for my coffee. Food came quickly though. Then when I went to pay, I had to wait again because it seemed like only certain staff were allowed to handle the transactions? Not sure what was going on today- if this was an exception or if this was already a better day than usual (I can’t imagine the wait on weekends when the cafe would be much busier). They’ve got lots of Japanese spirits on display though I don’t think they serve any alcohol at the moment. I wonder if they will in the future though (since this branch is called Accro Cafe Bar) Saw the staff shake up what I thought was an espresso martini but turns out it was a shakerato… woops!

Granted we were at what was essentially a poolside bar but I still had certain expectations considering we were at the Grand Hyatt, a 5 star hotel. We ordered two cocktails and truffle fries to share. The truffle fries were piping hot and portion was generous. 10/10, no complaints there! The cocktail I ordered was called D’Balls, which was an attempt at a fun and boozy twist on the traditional bubble tea. However it ended up tasting strange- the oat milk and alcohol combo did not work, and the blueberry boba lacked blueberry taste and the texture was hard, not chewy at all. My friend’s Mango Mania was served lukewarm and tasted very amateur. Like something my boyfriend and I would make at home during our cocktail nights. Reminded me of one of our less successful experiments. The drink also had a strange metallic aftertaste. Overall would not recommend apart from the vibes and the food.

So many rave reviews, yet when I went I found the food to be only average (and cold). The prices were absolutely ridiculous for what it was, especially considering the decor, location, and most importantly, the taste. Maybe I was just unlucky, or perhaps because I visited on a slow Saturday afternoon, but I found Graceland to be a dive bar with cold, pre-made food charging high end restaurant prices. The fried chicken burger was tasty, but it was served lukewarm. My friend and I did point out that the fact that it still tastes good despite not being hot is something worth complimenting, I guess? (We like to stay positive and we try to be grateful for what we have, lol) The nachos, on the other hand, had no redeeming qualities. The guacamole just makes me sad, and if they’re going to serve that pathetic excuse of guacamole (let’s just call it what it is - avocado paste), they really didn’t need to be so generous. There was just too much sauce, both sour cream and avocado paste, and the worst part is that the nachos were served cold!! We did find some melted cheese in between the layers, which tells me that at one point this dish was indeed baked, but they didn’t bother reheating it properly before serving it to customers. Also, despite the rather high price tag, there was no meat in the nachos. The drinks were decent, and the espresso martini was outstanding. Probably the only thing I’d come back for. To end the review, let me tell you this- on top of this disaster of a cold, stale, soggy meal, we were given a 12% service charge on top of the entire bill. Yes… let that sink in. I think this may be one of the first places I have seen in HK with anything more than the usual 10% service charge. All the more outrageous considering the cold, subpar food that they served…

Oh my goodness I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the sweetest donut I’ve ever had. Sweeter than Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, J.Co, even Cinnabon (I know it’s not a donut) is less sweet. I like sweet things. I’m the kind of girl who gets caramel frappucinos with extra cream and caramel, and I am a fan of black sugar bubble tea. But this donut was way too sweet. I don’t know if it’s only the flavour that I chose (HK style milk tea), but the donut itself before I got to the milk tea cream was already very sweet. The milk tea cream was no different. It’s a shame because the taste of both the donut and the milk tea cream is actually quite good, once you get past that initial shock of overpowering sweetness. It’s like they soaked and doused the entire donut in syrup, which is reflected in its moist and squishy texture. (Also, there are currently no boxes available for takeaway, only paper bags. I can only imagine the donuts quickly soaking the bag with the sugar - not ideal for taking home if you’ve got a long drive or commute.) Unfortunately I just cannot recommend this place, at least not for its donuts. The other pastries might be better, but I’m not sure if I dare to try…

We had a wonderful time celebrating my friend's birthday at Pica Pica. The service was excellent - attentive and sincere. They offered us purse hooks for our bags, which was a nice thoughtful touch and I don't think I've ever been offered a purse hook in any other restaurant in Hong Kong before (I've had other things to place my bag, but never a purse hook).

Food was delicious and portions were generous for the price. There was not a single dish that we found unsatisfactory. The staff were professional and patient with our requests to ensure that certain dishes were completely vegetarian, whether that meant double-checking with the kitchen, or serving the meat elements on the side. Our tables were always cleared promptly, and we were given a gentle heads up whenever our main dishes were about to be served. The staff would also refrain from mixing a dish before we took a photo, which again showed the attention to detail in their service.

When it was time for desserts, the staff sang Happy Birthday enthusiastically for the birthday girl, and the desserts had a beautifully written Happy Birthday lettering on the plate - I've had and been to enough birthday meals to know that unfortunately, the lettering can sometimes look worse than a 5 year old's handwriting. Thankfully this was not the case at Pica Pica. What's more, I was pleasantly surprised that they not only took a polaroid for us, but also included a handwritten and handdrawn card to go with it. That was definitely another first for me.

I would like to say a big thank you to Aiza and Misa for taking such good care of us during our meal. The food was excellent, but it was the service of the staff that elevated our experience to the next level.

I was surprised and relieved to find a cute little modern cafe within walking distance from Baptist Hospital, in a shopping arcade with decor that hasn’t been changed since the 80s 😆 While part of the Baptist University campus is also nearby, I didn’t see many youngsters around (though you’ll of course find them at this cafe), and the whole area has such an odd mix of vibes - you’ll see what I mean when you’re there. As you may have guessed, I am not a university student, so the reason I found myself in this location that’s not quite city centre (and not quite… anything? either) is because I was visiting my mom at the hospital. In between the two visiting time slots, there is a good 5 hour gap. Thank god this cafe was there for me to chill, read, and do some work on my laptop, all the while drinking quality coffee. The staff were very friendly, and I felt comfortable sitting there for long periods of time without any pressure to leave or order more (but I imagine there would be more people on weekends and I may feel differently then). The only downside is that the bathroom is located within the archaic 80s time capsule of a mall, so you can imagine the bathroom isn’t going to be the nicest. It’s clean but dated, and lighting is dim. You’ll also need to bring your own tissue for toilet paper. Definitely got some heebie-jeebies while I was there, so I tried to pee as fast as I could so that I could leave ASAP 🚽😂🏃🏻‍♀️ Thank you Hap Coffee -I very much enjoyed your tasty oat milk flat white in your warm and cozy cafe. It means a lot, especially to people like me, who may be feeling troubled or upset about their loved ones in the hospital nearby. A nice little oasis by the hospital 🤗
