In short, the food was a little disappointing. We ordered a simple tomato sauce pasta and a margarita pizza. For the price, the potions were really tiny to start with and the pasta was well over cooked and soggy. The sauce was simple but quite delicious though. As for the pizza, it was okay but when I order s margarita, I don't really expect to be served a pizza with processed mozzarella and dried flakes of basil. Fresher ingredients would've done it more justice. By far the best part was the service. The waitress was very loquacious and sweet which is rare in HK, so I really appreciated that.

If local cuisine turns your stomach, dining choices in Kennedy Town are rather limited. We had our sights set on a Korean BBQ but failed to note it has a buffet which meant the place was swamped with local families hoping to make the best of it by 7pm. As we made our way out, my wife remembered her friend recommending a French restaurant by the Merton.Unfortunately its reputation meant it was full by the time we got there and so we settled on a casual French-Italian eatery a few meters further.Zig Zag has a clean modern interior. Unfortunately its open-air concept means you'll be sweating your way through dinner, the uncomfortable stools adding to the pain.Anyway, we navigate our way through the short menu and a very nice gentleman takes our order without writing it down. Knowing the short attention span of local waiters, I was expecting something to miss. It turned out to be just the main course. More on that later. We had ordered a couple of glasses of wine but before it got served, I noticed an inhebriated old man looking at our table with a certain interest and as he enquired to the staff as to why our glasses were still empty, I figured out he must be the owner. Right was I as the man proceeded to explain where he was from and how he got there, some in French, some in English. My wife had little interest, speaking neither of those languages and frankly I wish I too had not been able to understand either of them.In the meantime, the waiter had poored me a generous glass of wine but the bottle ran dry midway as he served my wife and as he was about to fill it up using another bottle, Mr. French-honor-shall-be-saved owner told him to wait until that glass goes empty to serve the damoiselle the missing bit. Sure, why not. The wine is nice enough to treat it with the appropriate respect. As the man wanders further to another table, our first dish comes, a half-half little pizza which as we are told is the best in town. I'd say it's the best in Kennedy Town. Right after the takeaway joint. And the microwave mini-pizza from 7-11. The crust is thin and hard, the topping is... on top. Then comes an appropriately el dente pasta pomodoro with tons of big chunks of tomatoes. The tipsy gentleman had told us the main customer of his kitchen is himself. Well I can assure you, he has never been to Italy. As our wait for the half-chicken got longer and longer, I started to suspect it would never come. The waitress coming to clear the table confirmed this and so we re-ordered, despite the heat and aching bottoms. A little wine top-off to apologize for the mistake would have been appreciated but obviously it didn't happen. When the chicken, coming all the way from Argentina (or something like that, to me it's like saying the fish is from Pakistan and the bread from Norway), it had been chopped off Canto-style, cutting through the meat and bones in an unedible fashion. I'm not one to tell much when asked how I find the food but I had to mention this when the boasting owner came for another round of Frenchitude by the table. But at least he served us some more wine.To be fair the potatoes dauphinoise were very good and the snails at the next table smelled just as good.So next time you come to Kennedy Town, go where everyone go: the Japanese joint further up the road.

I went there with my family for dinner tonight to celebrate two of our family members' birthday, one of them is my husband. Food was a little above average. Pizza was good but spaghetti was soggy. Other food were just soso, but it was fine as we were only looking for a casual dinner and didn't expect for something exceptionally good. The problem is the arrogant restaurant owner. We did not order any pre-meal drinks, nor during meal drinks for below two reasons that are more than reasonable for anybody:1) as a 100% tradtional and local Chinese, we are taught since small that we should not drink while eating, not even water2) i believe it's very common for again the local Chinese to order drinks after meal so that we can have enough "room" for good food and not getting full with liquidThis super arrogant owner just jumped in and interrupted our dinner ALL OF A SUDDEN and start blaming us for not ordering drinks. He spoke very rudely and very loudly that everyone in the restaurant can hear that clearly. He pulled out some glasses and a small bottle of water and banged on the table, saying that he knew in Chinese restaurants we usually get water for free, but here it costs $16 (or whatever), usually everyone comes in has to pay for that, but he couldn't stand seeing people having dinner without any drinks, so this water is "on the house", then he opened the cap and threw it on the table. He walked away angrily, we didn't have time yet to realize what happened, he returned and keep scolding more. If you are looking for a place for a memorable dinner, this place is highly NOT recommended if you are not prepared to get criticized for not ordering water. I will share this to all my friends and their friends.

Came here last night with my friend. The restaurant was half empty when the one next door was fully booked -- probably the harbinger of an average meal we were about to have. We ordered: 1) escargot, 2) wings with herbs, 3) spaghetti with tomato sauce 4) spaghetti with cream sauce and ham. The problem with the food is that it tastes exactly like what you would (and can) cook at home. The spaghetti is a bit too soggy, and the wings tasted like just coming out of the microwave oven. I won't say it's bad food per se, but for someone who's looking for a meal less *homey*, there are probably better choices elsewhere.
