We have been going to Spaghetti House in Grand Plaza for years, it has relocated a couple of times inside the mall and had many staff changes. We have been members for many years and regularly visit it mainly for lunch. This is my first review on Open Rice though.


The service is quick and friendly, at peak hour we got a much sort after booth seat 👍 Since we visited last time they have changed the lunch menu once again with the most interesting addition, a Beef, Bacon and Egg Burger 🍔 So we definitely had to try that along with the Beef Bolognese Penne and the Seafood Linguine in Lobster Sauce. We added an extra $15 for soup and breads which we chose chicken and mushroom soup with one upgraded with puff pastry for $18. Now they also introduced the scan the QR code order yourself system which is becoming popular. Added Ice Cold Lemon Teas for all meals.


Soups arrived early with the breads, and they were piping hot so we put them aside to cool down. Usually the mains come very quickly and before we can finish the soups.


The Beef Bolognese Penne is a very safe choice with the recipe remaining the same for many years. Great for kids! The cheapest dish on the menu.


The Seafood Linguine had prawns, mussels, squid and fish all brought together with a lobster sauce. There was a lot of seafood in it and very filling. Good value for money, this dish.


The Beef, Cheese, Bacon and Egg Burger with French Fries was good, not spectacular, but it gets a thumbs up cause the combination of bacon and egg in a burger is rare in HK. The beef Pattie was well seasoned and moist, the bacon 🥓 gave it a good smoky flavor, the fried egg was runny. The salad was fresh and the buns were buttered and toasted to perfection. The french fries were slightly dry and over cooked.


The soups were good, thick, hot, tasty and creamy. The puff pastry was over done and was like rock 🪨, so slightly disappointed with this after paying for an upgrade.


In summary, a good family restaurant with something for everyone. Good value for money, efficient service, nice seating arrangements and the food is generally consistently good!

One of us forgot to bring our phone and were forced to order takeaway for lunch. I felt like a cold sashimi don on a hot 🥵 summers day. We ordered the Tempera Don which consisted of prawns, oysters, eel and vegetables and a sashimi don containing seared salmon belly, prawn and crab stick rolls.


On top of the price of the dishes, we had to pay additional $3 per dish for takeaway containers. I must say the takeaway bag and utensils were some of the most beautifully decorated I’ve ever seen in HK!


The tempera were deep fried in a lite tempera batter and drizzled in a sweet brown sauce, the tempera was still crispy and not soggy. The deep fried oysters were very nice and the other items, the tempera prawn, eel and vegetables were normal. They were not oily and not over cooked retaining the moisture inside.


The sashimi rice seared salmon belly, buttery prawn and crab rolls was cool, refreshing and tasty being smothered in mayonnaise, the salmon roe was crunchy and all mixed in with soy sauce and wasabi was a great little meal.

We live in YMT and had been to Dough Bros in Kennedy Town previously and sat in the Belcher Bay Promenade eating our pizzas. However, during summer we wanted to avoid alfresco dining and decided to try bring it all the way back home. This is how it went PS: we didn’t know one had opened in Sheung Wan 😜

We had previously ordered the Parma 2.0 and the Maui Wowie, which we throughly enjoyed. This time we order exactly the same, but decided to try their doughnuts 🍩 We ordered 2 x Nutella and 1 x Lemon Pie.

Once the order was collected, it took about half an hour to get it back to YMT via the MTR. They were still warm and in good condition, and probably in no better condition than if we had walked to the Belcher Promenade found a seat and ate them outside in the searing heat.

The Parma 2.0, the pizza base is lovely and puffy and crispy, the toppings of Parma ham, mozzarella cheese, garlic, roasted mushrooms and rocket complemented each other and when drizzled with the garlic mayonnaise they supply is simply divine.

The Maui Wowie, contains smoked ham, pineapple, mozzarella and tomato. The pineapple adds sweetness and goes well with the smoked ham. Again drizzled in the the garlic mayonnaise really elevates the taste of the pizza.

Admittedly the crust on the pizzas was slightly tougher as they had cooled down a bit, but the pizzas were tasty, fresh and better than those that could be delivered within our area.


The doughnuts were a good dessert, and can be sprinkled in cinnamon and sugar. The dough of the doughnut has a good texture and are not oily. The Nutella doughnut was well had lots of Nutella in it, and the Lemon pie filling was acidic and very sweet. Both nice to try! Both the fillings were very generous and ozzed out when you bit into the doughnuts.

Recently drove out to the long established Golden Castle in Shek Kong. It is convenient as it has car parking right outside the restaurant.


We ordered from the set lunch menu, the Spaghetti Carbonara and the Char-grilled Pork Lion with Black Pepper Sauce.


Soup and breads came along with the meals and a hot or cold drink.


The Carbonara was one of the best I’ve had anywhere, even from well established Italian restaurants, the spaghetti was Al-dente and the sauce was creamy with a velvety egg and cheese taste. There were lots of thick cuts of bacon 🥓 which made the dish very luxurious. The dish is seasoned well no salt and pepper was required to be added.


The pork lion was seared nicely with the marks to show on it, it wasn’t over cooked and was tender and juicy. The black pepper sauce was tangy and gave moisture and a depth of flavor to the pork. The spaghetti was Al-dente like the Carbonara.


Overall, the food is good, the service is very professional and the restaurant is clean and spacious. Great place for western food in the middle of nowhere.

Came to this recently new Korean restaurant called K Pop which was former occupied by another Korean restaurant Han Sung for many years.


The set up and layout inside the seating area was the same as the former restaurant, it is quite small and compact.


We ordered a the Bulgogi Beef Kimbar (Korean sushi), a Bibimbap and Cold Soup Noodles. We were then provided the usual side dishes of bean sprout, pickles and Kim Chi.


The Bulgogi Beef Kimbar was really good, the seaweed was crunchy, the Bulgogi Beef was marinated well and tender, the rice was seasoned with salt and sesame oil and moist. The Bibimbap was standard and had lots of larger chucks of lettuce 🥬 should be more finely sliced and the fried egg was over done making if more difficult to mix into the rice. The chili 🌶 sauce which is the key ingredient to bring it together was spicy and sweet. The Cold Soup Noodles were ice cold and perfect on a hot summers day, the buckwheat noodles were starchy and held there shape with a good texture. The both which is supposed to be the star of this dish was watery and not well seasoned.


Overall, the Kimbar was the best dish with the other traditional dishes being a bit different to other Korean restaurants I’ve been too. The service is good and the value for money is great!
